Upcycle inspiration for your BOL pots

Updated: Jun 17, 2020

Written for BOL Foods

We have always been big advocates of upcycling and launched our #dontwastecreate campaign long before plastic was in the public eye, but now is the perfect time to join in if you haven’t before.

Did you know we replaced all of the plastic lids on our salad pots with aluminium tops instead? Not only this, but all of our pots are 100% re-usable and our Veg Pot and Super Soup jars are also dishwasher safe.

We’ve put together a few ideas to inspire you to get creative with our used pots - if you can come up with anything else or you try these at home, please show us using the hashtag #dontwastecreate on social media.

DIY Sugar Scrub

It’s important to make time for a bit of self-care and there’s no better way than a pamper evening. Mix together 1 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup coconut oil for a simple at-home body scrub. This can be kept in one of our BOL containers for up to two weeks in the fridge, and you can even add a few drops of essential oil – the best for this is scrub is vanilla.

De-clutter your storage cupboard

Now we are at home more, it’s a great excuse to do jobs we don’t usually have time for. It’s time to see what’s hiding in the back of the food cupboard, and by re-organising, you can see what needs using up and help minimise food-waste. Our pots can be re-used as food storage containers - from dried chickpeas and lentils to herbs and spices. A double sustainability win.

Plant potting

Do you have a green thumb that’s itching to be used? Our salad pots are the perfect size to start growing a herb garden in. They’re low-maintenance plants, hard to kill and if you’re really worried, start with cress before moving onto something bigger. The best part about growing herbs is adding them to your favourite BOL meal when they’re ready to harvest.

Toothpaste tablet container

These are the ultimate alternative to traditional toothpaste in plastic tubes, helping you to reduce waste in your daily routine. Our airtight salad pots are ideal for storing these as they stop the damp from your shower or bath softening them and look great on the bathroom shelf.

Savings pot

We are all dreaming of our next trip abroad, and although we don’t know when it is, now’s the time to start saving. From Paris to Bali, imaginations are running wild with adventures. Using an electric drill and metal cutters, carefully cut a hole in the top of the lid big enough for a coin. If you don’t have the tools, you can always unscrew it instead. But, make sure to decorate the outside with drawings of the destination to keep you motivated.
